Summer Classroom Assistant (Seasonal)

Overview

The Woodlands Children’s Museum is seeking energetic, reliable, and proactive college students to join our team as Summer Camp Classroom Assistants. This position is ideal for students over the age of 18 with a background in Education, Science, Art, or Technology who are looking for hands-on experience in a vibrant, diverse educational environment. Our summer museum camps pair a Lead Teacher with an Assistant to facilitate engaging, high-quality curriculum for children ages 5-10.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support: Provide direct assistance to children during lessons, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Activity Leadership: Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, lead specific activities or small-group projects.
  • Classroom Management: Take initiative in maintaining and organizing supplies required for the daily curriculum.
  • Operational Support: Responsible for cleaning project areas, resetting the classroom between AM & PM camps, and preparing for student transitions (drop-off/pick-up).
  • Collaboration: Act as a reliable, professional presence for lead teachers, parents, and museum participants.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children ages 5-10 in a classroom or camp setting is preferred.
  • Background: Strong interest or academic background in Education, the Arts, Sciences, or Technology.
  • Skills: * Ability to take initiative without constant supervision.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Punctual and dependable.

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a significant plus in our diverse environment.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
