The Woodlands Children’s Museum and Ovintiv Provide STEM Workshop for Girl Scouts

The Woodlands Children’s Museum recently welcomed over 100 local Girl Scouts to a badge workshop to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The free workshop was made possible with generous support from Ovintiv, a leading North American energy producer located in The Woodlands, Texas.

The workshop provided activities that allowed Daisy Girl Scouts to complete the Space Science Explorer Badge and Brownie Girl Scouts to complete the Space Science Adventurer Badge. Girl Scout badges, awards and other insignia are earned for accomplishing skill-building activities and are presented, worn, or displayed after completing specific requirements. Girl Scout awards and badges are a great way for girls to explore their interests, obtain new skills, and show the world what she’s accomplished.

“We were thrilled to be able to host this workshop and serve so many Girl Scouts in our community,” stated Angela Colton, the museum’s Executive Director. “Supporting young girls and nurturing their curiosity is a core part of our mission to educate, empower, and excite children and families through play. We are grateful for the support of Ovintiv in sharing this passion.”

The workshop included ten different activity stations and a “passport” to stamp after completing each activity. Girls had an opportunity to discover facts about the solar system, sun, moon, planets, stars, constellations, craters, shadows and light. They were also able to create galaxy slime, build a Lego® moon base, launch a stomp rocket, and create their own nebula spin art. The museum’s exhibits were also open for play once completing the badge requirements.

“At Ovintiv, we believe in the transformative power of education and the importance of nurturing young minds,” said Elizabeth Whillock, VP, Human Resources & Communications. “This workshop underpins our commitment to fostering curiosity and innovation in the next generation. We proudly support STEM initiatives because they prepare young minds to tackle the challenges of tomorrow and drive progress forward.”

The museum offers Girl Scout Badge Workshops for individual troops throughout the year, on topics including robotics, space science, STEM careers, home scientist, senses and more. Art badges such as painting and pottery are also available by request.
