Pirate ‘n Mermaid Day readings

Saturday, September 18 is Pirate ‘n Mermaid Day and we present two special stories. At 11am enjoy The Mermaid by Jan Brett. This story is a twist on the traditional Goldilocks tale with an underwater setting off the coast of Okinawa, Japan.  Kiniro, a young mermaid, stumbles upon a beautiful seashell and coral home, which she just has to explore!  When the residents, the Octopus family, return home, they are not pleased to find the visitor! Then at Noon Miss Jan reads How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long. A young boy is invited to set sail with a crew of pirates when they discover his digging skills, which could be helpful in burying their treasure chest!  Jeremy Jacob learns pirate vocabulary and “manners” along with other skills but discovers that pirates don’t read bedtime stories or do “tucking in.”
