SUMMARY:Shadow Puppet Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Shadow Puppet Theatre presents\, “Polar Bear\, Polar Bear\, What do you Hear?” by Bill Martin Jr. \n“Polar Bear\, Polar Bear\, what do you hear? I hear a lion roaring in my ear.” \nWhat will you hear when you read this book to a preschool child? \nLots of noise! \nChildren will chant the rhythmic words. They’ll make the sounds the animals make. And they’ll pretend to be the zoo animals featured in the book — look at the last page! \nAn introduction to storytelling elements which allows our readers and audience to interact directly with each other\, children of all ages are enchanted with the animated shadows created by manipulating cut-outs behind a sheet and in front of a bare bulb lamp representing characters in the story being read out loud.\nNo reservation needed. Free with paid admission.

SUMMARY:Storybook Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Storybook Theatre presents\, “The Mitten” by Jan Brett \nThe story begins with Nicki\, a young Ukrainian boy\, who hopes that his grandmother will knit him some cozy white mittens. After she makes them for him\, she warns that if he loses them\, it will be difficult to find them in the snow. Nicki assures her that he won’t lose them\, but no sooner than he leaves the house\, he drops one of them! As he searches for his lovely mitten\, something very interesting takes place. The creatures of the forest are slowly making their home in his mitten: a mole\, then a rabbit\, a hedgehog\, an owl\, a badger\, a fox — even a bear! They pack themselves in as tight as they can\, but a small mouse manages to come in and his whiskers tickle the bear’s nose. The bear sneezes\, and all of the animals pop out of the mitten\, causing it to sail in the air just as Nicki is about to give up. Grabbing the mitten triumphantly\, he takes it back to his grandmother’s house. \nDramatic and sweet\, this book will evoke warm and cozy feelings in readers any time of the year. Perfect to share with little ones\, the simplicity of the story shines bright. \nIntroduce your child to the wonder of reading and instill a love of books at an early age. Storybook Theatre combines your favorite childhood books with songs\, rhymes and finger plays which are meant to promote early literacy and enhance language development. No reservation needed. Free with paid admission.

SUMMARY:Shadow Puppet Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Shadow Puppet Theatre presents\, “The Mitten” by Jan Brett\nWhen Nicki drops his white mitten in the snow\, he goes on without realizing that it is missing. \nOne by one\, woodland animals find it and crawl in; first\, a curious mole\, then a rabbit\, a badger and others\, each one larger than the last. Finally\, a big brown bear is followed in by a tiny brown mouse and what happens next makes for a wonderfully funny climax. \nAs the story of the animals in the mitten unfolds\, the reader can see Nicki in the borders of each page\, walking through the woods unaware of what is going on. \nIn her distinctive style\, Jan Brett brings the animals to life with warmth and humor\, and her illustrations are full of visual delights and details faithful to the Ukrainian tradition from which the story comes.
