The festival traces its origins to a mythological legend that the Cowherd Star (Altair) and Weaver Star (Vega)\, lovers separated by the Milky Way\, are allowed to meet just once a year – on the seventh day of the seventh month.\nChildren and adults write their wishes on narrow strips of colored paper and hang them\, along with other paper ornaments\, on bamboo branches placed in the backyards or entrances of their homes and then hope their wishes come true.

A special meet-and-greet photo opportunity with Tinkerbell will take place on stage at 10:30am\, 11:30am\, 12:30pm\, and 1:30pm on both days. \nChildren can also create their own special fairy wings and enchanting wands in The Muse Art Bar. Fairy-style face painting will also be available\, along with sensory play in the fairy flower bins. \n“Believing in fairies opens young minds to the magic of nature and the wonderment found in the world around us\,” states Angela Colton\, the museum’s Executive Director.\n“On our annual Fairy Day\, that magic is seen on the faces of guests as they meet and pose for pictures with Tinkerbell\,\nwho appears to have just flown in on a cloud of pixie dust.” \nOn Thursday\, June 24\, visitors can also enjoy an animated story entitled Backyard Fairies by Phoebe Wahl. Enjoy hands on activities and Japanese Dance performances. \nTanabata\, (Evening of the Seventh) or the Star Festival\, is held on the evening of July 7. The festival traces its origins to a mythological legend that the Cowherd Star (Altair) and Weaver Star (Vega)\, lovers separated by the Milky Way\, are allowed to meet just once a year – on the seventh day of the seventh month.\nChildren and adults write their wishes on narrow strips of colored paper and hang them\, along with other paper ornaments\, on bamboo branches placed in the backyards or entrances of their homes and then hope their wishes come true.
