Her latest book\, A BEAR’S YEAR (Schwartz & Wade @ Random House) celebrates the passing of seasons\, following a mother bear and her cubs through the course of a year. Kathy was inspired to write this book after visiting Alaska and seeing bears in the wild. \nKathy is also the author of THE THREE BEARS’ HALLOWEEN  and THE THREE BEARS’ CHRISTMAS (Holiday House)\, and TAKE ME TO YOUR BBQ (Disney Hyperion). DESCRIPTION:The Woodlands Children’s Museum will be transformed into a concert hall for a special family event.  The Prelude Family Concert series takes the stage at 2pm. The concert is included in the cost of admission\, which is $6 for adults and children 1 year and older. “This sing-along concert will delight the whole family\,” Angela Colton\, the museum’s executive director\, said. “We hope everyone joins us for an interactive musical experience.” Prelude Music Classes for Children was founded by husband and wife team\, Ana Treviño-Godfrey and Jonathan Godfrey. The acclaimed opera singer and renowned violinist also are the founders of Mercury Orchestra and believe that every child has musical ability.

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 2\, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.:  Kaye Henry\, author of Willie the Pencil Neck Pooch\, will do a reading of her book at 10:30 followed by a “meet and greet” and book signing till 12:00. \nWillie the Pencil Neck Pooch \nKaye Henry is the author of Willie the Pencil Neck Pooch.  She retired from public school teaching after 28 years\, and now teaches adult ESL part-time.  Henry and her family took in over 50 lost animals over the years\, including ducks\, pigs\, horses\, dogs and cats.  Their life spans ranged 10-33 years.  Every one of them who appeared on the Henrys’ doorstep were welcomed with open arms\, and never had to worry about their next meal\, or where they would sleep. \nWillie had a special personality and was loved and accepted immediately.  He was a funny little dog\, and a joy to add to the family. \nMs. Henry still has 3 cats\, 2 dogs\, and 6 ducks and 10 chickens.   The ducks come to the front door of her home every afternoon and quack to be fed.  They get corn\, but also a mix of salad greens\, cantaloupe\, watermelon\, grapes\, and their favorite\, English peas. \nWillie is Ms. Henry’s first published book\, with other Willie adventures to follow. \n

The day has been honoring children and advocating literacy since 1997.
